چکیده

Abstract This study investigated the triple-deficit hypothesis in Arabic, a Semitic transparent orthography, among 258 native Arabic children from Grade 3, divided into typical readers group ( n = 204) and dyslexia 54). Children were tested on word- pseudoword-reading accuracy, word-reading fluency, phonological awareness (PA), naming speed (NS), orthographic processing (OP), nonverbal reasoning ability. The results indicated that all with had either double or triple deficits, none of them single deficit. deficits showed lower performance than no reading measures. They have also to accuracy but comparable scores fluency. In addition, OP was confirmed as an additional independent predictor word-level skills besides PA NS, while controlling for age intelligence. classification findings presence deficit maximizes risk failure. These support additive nature combined PA, OP. Moreover, they establish benefit including third deficit, addition underlying Arabic.

Dyslexia and the anchoring-deficit hypothesis.

The 'core deficit' of dyslexia has been characterized by different researchers in terms of either phonological impairments or of difficulties in processing basic visual and auditory stimuli. Recent findings suggest that a single type of impairment in the dynamics of perception, which affects the efficiency of short-term memory, might underlie the broad range of difficulties of dyslexics. Experi...

Emotional Face Recognition in Children With Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Evidence From Event Related Gamma Oscillation

Introduction: Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have some impairment in emotional relationship which can be due to problems in emotional processing. The present study investigated neural correlates of early stages of emotional face processing in this group compared with typically developing children using the Gamma Band Activity (GBA). Methods: A total of 19 childre...

The nonword reading deficit in developmental dyslexia: evidence from children learning to read German.

This study examined whether dyslexic children learning to read German show the same nonword reading deficit, which is characteristic of dyslexic children learning to read English (Rack, Olson, & Snowling, 1992), a deficit which is taken as evidence for a phonological impairment underlying dyslexia. Because the German writing system, in contrast to English, exhibits comparatively simple and stra...

Missing working memory deficit in dyslexia: children writing from memory

This research focused on the fluency of writing processes of children with dyslexia, in order to examine the relationship between WM and writing. An experiment was used in which children with dyslexia, and chronological age-matched and reading age-matched children without dyslexia wrote 24 sentences. Sentences with existing words and non-words were used. The results show that there are no diffe...

Developmental dyslexia: the visual attention span deficit hypothesis.

The visual attention (VA) span is defined as the amount of distinct visual elements which can be processed in parallel in a multi-element array. Both recent empirical data and theoretical accounts suggest that a VA span deficit might contribute to developmental dyslexia, independently of a phonological disorder. In this study, this hypothesis was assessed in two large samples of French and Brit...
